For a level horizon, the sun rises on the campus at 7:20, 7:21 and 7:22 AM and sets at 6:10, 6:08 and 6:07 PM, Friday to Sunday, Eastern Daylight Time. It rises at 105 degrees and sets at 255. Haverford's main buildings face 254 degrees, so the sunset lines up with them this weekend, behind their neighbors.

### The weekend's schedule and the light

The events below are the ones Haverford's [Family and Friends Weekend 2026 page](https://www.haverford.edu/node/111426) and two listings on the College's calendar showed in search results on October 17. The College's own pages could not be opened from where this guide was written, so the list comes from those search summaries. The weekend page gave the dates and said the full schedule was still to come, so check it before you plan. All times are Eastern Daylight Time.

- Friday, October 23: sunrise at 7:20 AM and sunset at 6:10 PM. In Bryn Mawr, the Bern Schwartz Fitness and Athletic Center (entry 2) gets golden light at 7:41 AM and the PNC Bank branch (entry 3) at 7:47 AM. On the campus, Jones Hall (entry 1) lines up with the setting sun at 5:59 PM.
- Friday, October 23, 8:00 to 10:00 PM: the Family & Friends Weekend Annual Ensembles Concert, in Marshall Auditorium in Roberts Hall ([Haverford College](https://www.haverford.edu/node/109981)). Jones Hall stands about 80 m north of Roberts Hall and lines up two hours before the concert. It is the family photo spot.
- Saturday, October 24: sunrise at 7:21 AM and sunset at 6:08 PM. The Bern Schwartz Center lines up at 7:40 AM and the PNC Bank branch at 7:45 AM. No campus wall lines up with Saturday's sunset with a clear view.
- Saturday, October 24, 8:00 to 10:00 PM: the Family Weekend Concert, listed on Haverford's calendar at the Great Hall at Bryn Mawr College ([Haverford College](https://www.haverford.edu/node/110041)). Sunset is at 6:08 PM, nearly two hours before.
- Sunday, October 25: sunrise at 7:22 AM and sunset at 6:07 PM. The Bern Schwartz Center lines up at 7:38 AM and the PNC Bank branch at 7:43 AM.
- Academic sessions, hands-on workshops and photos with the Black Squirrel: the weekend page named them with no days or times.

### Part 1: the Haverford College campus

Jones Hall is the one campus wall that passes every check, for Friday's sunset. The main buildings line up with the sunset all weekend, but each has a neighbor toward the sun that stands higher than the sun at that moment. The section after Part 2 lists them.

#### 1 Jones Hall

Haverford College, Haverford, Pennsylvania

Wall

west-southwest, facing 254°

Sun

The setting sun lines up with this wall on Oct 23. Best: Friday, October 23 at 5:59 PM, 1.4° above the horizon.

Leaves

The More Than Just Parks foliage tracker, in its forecast of October 12, puts the peak for Philadelphia County around October 26 ([More Than Just Parks](https://morethanjustparks.com/foliage-tracker/pennsylvania)). The tracker gives no date for Delaware or Montgomery County, where the campus stands, just west of the city.

Where to stand

The wall is the hall's west side, 22 m long, facing Harris Road across a lawn with footpaths. Stand on the lawn west-southwest of the wall, with the sun behind you, and stay off Harris Road. The sun lines up with the wall at 5:59 PM on Friday, 1.4 degrees up, 11 minutes before sunset. About 17 m of the wall is in the sun at that moment. The north end is in the shade of a building close by toward the sun. On Saturday at 6:01 PM and Sunday at 6:02 PM the sun lines up lower, 0.9 and 0.5 degrees up, and a building toward the sun stands about 1 degree high; its height is an estimate. Computed from the building outline and the sun's position, and not checked on the ground.

One of the three North Dorms, with Lunt and Comfort, north of Roberts Hall. The College's campus directory lists it as first-year housing for 70 students, built in 1968 ([Haverford College](https://haverford.edu/node/240027)).

Family photo spot. Jones Hall on Friday at 5:59 PM, two hours before the Annual Ensembles Concert in Roberts Hall, about 80 m south. Stand the family on the lawn a few steps out from the hall's west side, turned partway toward the camera. The photographer stands west-southwest of them, with the sun low behind and to one side, which lights faces and the wall behind them in the same warm light. The sun is 1.4 degrees up, and the campus is an arboretum, so trees west of the lawn can block it. Look at the view on Friday afternoon before you plan around it. Post it with #HengeDays. Computed from the building outline and the sun's position, and not checked on the ground.

Between events, the whole campus is the Haverford College Arboretum. The Nature Trail, 2.2 miles of dirt and gravel, follows the edge of the 216-acre campus past the Pinetum, the athletic fields, the meadows and the Duck Pond. The College lists the campus and the trail as free and open to the public from dawn to dusk, with public restrooms in the Whitehead Campus Center on Coursey Road ([Haverford College](https://www.haverford.edu/node/91806), [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haverford_College_Arboretum)).

### Part 2: Bryn Mawr, Haverford village and Ardmore

Bryn Mawr is about 1.5 km northwest of the campus, around the Bryn Mawr station and Lancaster Avenue, with Bryn Mawr College north of the station. Both walls that pass there face the morning sun, so they fit before each day's events.

#### 2 Bern Schwartz Fitness and Athletic Center

Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Wall

east-southeast, facing 108°

Sun

The low morning sun lines up with this wall on Oct 23 to 25. Best: Sunday, October 25 at 7:38 AM, 2.3° above the horizon.

Leaves

The More Than Just Parks foliage tracker, in its forecast of October 12, puts the peak for Philadelphia County around October 26 ([More Than Just Parks](https://morethanjustparks.com/foliage-tracker/pennsylvania)). The tracker gives no date for Montgomery County, where Bryn Mawr stands, just west of the city.

Where to stand

The wall is the building's long east side, 86 m. Stand on the lawn east-southeast of the wall, with the sun behind you. The sun lines up with the wall at 7:41 AM on Friday, 7:40 AM on Saturday and 7:38 AM on Sunday, 3.3, 2.8 and 2.3 degrees up. These are golden days: at the head-on moment the sun is 2 to 6 degrees up. About 51 m of the wall is in the sun on Friday and Saturday, and about 17 m on Sunday, so go on Friday or Saturday. Buildings toward the sun rise 2.2 to 2.4 degrees in the outlines in front of most of the wall, and up to 6.7 degrees in front of one end; their heights are estimates. Computed from the building outline and the sun's position, and not checked on the ground.

#### 3 PNC Bank

Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Wall

east-southeast, facing 109°

Sun

The low morning sun lines up with this wall on Oct 23 to 25. Best: Sunday, October 25 at 7:43 AM, 3.3° above the horizon.

The wall is the branch's east side, 14 m long, facing South Bryn Mawr Avenue about 20 m away. Stand on the sidewalk on the west side of South Bryn Mawr Avenue, east-southeast of the wall, with the sun behind you. Stay out of the drives around the branch and the avenue. The sun lines up with the wall at 7:47 AM on Friday, 7:45 AM on Saturday and 7:43 AM on Sunday, 4.3, 3.8 and 3.3 degrees up. These are golden days: at the head-on moment the sun is 2 to 6 degrees up. The whole wall is in the sun at that moment. A building toward the sun rises 2.5 degrees in the outlines; its height is an estimate. Computed from the building outline and the sun's position, and not checked on the ground.

A bank branch on South Bryn Mawr Avenue, about 140 m south of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute at 824 West Lancaster Avenue and about 300 m southwest of the Bryn Mawr station, in OpenStreetMap. It is in the list for its wall, on the walk between the station and the Film Institute.

Haverford village is about 750 m northeast of Founders Hall, around the Haverford station and Lancaster Avenue, with the Merion Cricket Club north of the tracks. Ardmore is about 1.5 km east, around the Ardmore station and Suburban Square. Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Ardmore are stops on SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale Line, so the train links all three. No wall in Haverford village or Ardmore passed every check. Lancaster Avenue runs from west-northwest to east-southeast, so the shop fronts face away from the sun's bearings, and the side walls that face it stand against the next building.

Suburban Square is the open-air shopping center beside the Ardmore station. In December 2024 it listed its hours as Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Sunday, noon to 5:00 PM, and asked shoppers to check each store's own hours ([The Philadelphia Inquirer](https://www.inquirer.com/business/suburban-square-new-stores-coulter-place-20241218.html)). Check before you go. Sunset over Ardmore is at 6:10 PM on Friday, 6:08 PM on Saturday and 6:07 PM on Sunday.

### When the landmarks line up

Haverford's main buildings share one grid, with long walls facing 254 degrees. The setting sun lines up with them at the horizon this weekend. On Sunday it lines up between 6:01 and 6:05 PM, just before the 6:07 PM sunset. At that moment each has a neighbor toward the sun that stands higher than the sun, so the walls are in shade. They line up again from February 14 to 18, 2027, with the same neighbors in front. The days and times below are from the Henge Days engine for each wall. Each name opens the wall in Henge Days.

- [Founders Hall](https://hengedays.com/at/40.00991,-75.30730?q=Founders+Hall%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F112257514&facade=16&d=2026-10-23): the west-southwest wall, 60 m, lines up with the sunset from October 23 to 26, at 6:03 PM on Sunday. Chase Hall rises 6.3 degrees in front of it. It lines up again from February 15 to 18, 2027.
- [Roberts Hall](https://hengedays.com/at/40.01058,-75.30612?q=Roberts+Hall%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F130196161&facade=32&d=2026-10-22), home of Marshall Auditorium: the west-southwest wall, 49 m, lines up from October 22 to 25, at 6:05 PM on Sunday. Stokes Hall rises 2.2 degrees in front of it. It lines up again from February 16 to 18, 2027.
- [Barclay Hall](https://hengedays.com/at/40.00982,-75.30613?q=Barclay+Hall%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F148474219&facade=0&d=2026-10-23): the west-southwest wall, 66 m, lines up from October 23 to 26, at 6:02 PM on Sunday. The Lutnick Library rises 3.1 degrees in front of it. It lines up again from February 14 to 17, 2027.
- [Stokes Hall](https://hengedays.com/at/40.00982,-75.30890?q=Stokes+Hall%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F130205098&facade=6&d=2026-10-23): the west-southwest wall, 85 m, lines up from October 23 to 26, at 6:02 PM on Sunday. A building toward the sun rises 1.7 degrees in front of it. It lines up again from February 15 to 17, 2027.
- [Dining Center](https://hengedays.com/at/40.01045,-75.30801?q=Dining+Center%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F130168358&facade=7&d=2026-10-23): the west-southwest wall, 59 m, lines up from October 23 to 25, at 6:04 PM on Sunday. A building toward the sun rises 2.9 degrees in front of it. It lines up again from February 15 to 18, 2027.
- [Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center](https://hengedays.com/at/40.00851,-75.30587?q=Koshland+Integrated+Natural+Sciences+Center%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F148474220&facade=0&d=2026-10-23): the west-southwest wall, 91 m, lines up from October 23 to 26, at 6:03 PM on Sunday. Leeds Hall rises 3.2 degrees in front of it. It lines up again from February 15 to 17, 2027.
- [Lutnick Library](https://hengedays.com/at/40.00926,-75.30802?q=Lutnick+Library%2C+Haverford+College%2C+Haverford%2C+PA&b=osm%2Fway%2F130205099&facade=10&d=2026-10-24): the west-southwest wall, 55 m, lines up from October 24 to 27, at 6:01 PM on Sunday. Morris Health Services stands close in front of it. It lines up again from February 14 to 17, 2027.

The heights of the neighbors are estimates, since OpenStreetMap gives most of them none. Computed from the building outlines and the sun's position, and not checked on the ground.

### How the list was made

Henge Days computed every named building within 350 to 400 meters of 12 points: Founders Green with Barclay and Roberts Hall, the Lutnick Library with Stokes Hall and the Dining Center, Gummere Hall with VCAM and Walton Field, the Whitehead Campus Center and the Gardner Integrated Athletic Center, the Duck Pond and the east side of the Nature Trail, the west side of the campus and the Pinetum, the Haverford station on Lancaster Avenue, the Merion Cricket Club, Lancaster Avenue and the station in Bryn Mawr, the Bryn Mawr College campus, Lancaster Avenue and the station in Ardmore, and Suburban Square. A second pass added 7 smaller searches, each within 250 meters of its point, west of the campus, east of the Bryn Mawr College campus, west of Ardmore and east of Suburban Square. It used OpenStreetMap outlines. It kept 29 walls where the sun lines up with the wall within 6 degrees of the horizon on at least one day from Friday, October 23, to Sunday, October 25. It then traced the sun's path from each wall against all 942 outlines it had fetched, and dropped the walls where a neighboring building stands higher than the sun.

That check left eight walls. Each was then checked at five points along each section, and on its map for its own building, or a building attached to it, standing in front of it. Four were dropped. Morris Health Services, beside the Lutnick Library, has only about 6 m in the sun: the rest is in the shade of its own wing and a building close by. A building attached to Ardmore Q, south of Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, stands in front of its west wall. The map of the Main Line Village apartments in Wynnewood shows a building about 10 m in front of the east wall that the searches did not return. Bryn Mawr Hospital lines up on Sunday only, at 6.0 degrees, and its wall faces the hospital's grounds and drives, with no public place to stand in front. The President's House, the College president's home at 1 College Circle ([Haverford College](https://haverford.edu/campus-map/240007)), lines up on Sunday at 5:30 PM. It is left out because it is a private home. That leaves three walls, one on the campus and two in Bryn Mawr.

Hills and trees are not part of that check, and the times assume a level horizon. Haverford's campus is an arboretum, so trees matter most there. Each search returns at most 200 buildings. The search over the west side of the campus reached that limit, and the second pass covered the same ground with smaller searches. The search east of Suburban Square returned no buildings. Most neighboring buildings carry no height in OpenStreetMap; the check assumed about three stories for them, and each entry says so. Every date and time comes from the Henge Days engine for the wall's own bearing, in Eastern Daylight Time.

### How to read each entry

Each entry shows the building as Henge Days shows it. The map marks the building's outline from OpenStreetMap, gives every wall its compass bearing, and highlights the wall that lines up with the sun. Below it are the wall's row from the building's Henge days list, with a Save button that keeps the best day in your planner, and a year of head-on days for every wall. The Clear view line is the result of the check for other buildings on the best day.

Any building has a page like the ones above, your student's hall included. Whatever you shoot, post it with #HengeDays:
